The Inception Workshop for the Project on Reducing Uses and Releases of Chemicals of Concern, Including POPs, in The Textile Sector was held at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan from 10 to 13 October 2022. This workshop was organized by the Ministry of Climate Change, Government of Pakistan together with UNEP, BSCRC-SEA and supported by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) as implementing partners for technical coordination. This workshop is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
This workshop is divided into 3 sessions in 3 days:
Session 1: Finalization of the presentation with a focus on each country’s work plan and budget for 2022 and 2023
Session 2: Overview of Project Activities
Session 3: Recap of Component 1 and introduction to Components 2 & 3
The aim of this project is a significant and documented reduction in the use, release and exposure of chemicals of concern (CoC) including POPs in the textile sector in certain countries (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan and Viet Nam). This 5 (five) year project consists of four components, namely:
- Component 1: Pilot information sharing and chemical management on priority CoCs including POPs in textile facilities.
- Component 2: Eco-innovative strategies towards a non-toxic and circular textile economy.
- Component 3: Knowledge management for improvement.
- Component 4: Monitoring and Evaluation.
The results or outputs expected from the workshop include the following:
- All meeting participants are familiar with the overall project, the project design and approach, including the approved project components and activities
- Approval of the implementing agency’s work plan and budget (July 2022-December 2023)
- Ratification of work plan and state budget (July 2022-December 2023)
- Approval of the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Project Steering Committee and the National Working Group.
