Situation Assessment and Technical Guidelines on mercury-containing medical devices management project in Indonesia Launch Event will be held on 1 September 2021 online/virtually. The launch event was held in collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Health, the Asian Institute of Technology Regional Resource Center for Asia and the Pacific (AIT PRC.AP) and BCRC-SCRC Indonesia). This workshop is supported by the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with funding from The Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
The overall aim of the project is to contribute to the prevention of the adverse effects of mercury on health and the environment through the environmentally friendly management of used thermometers and sphygmomanometers in ASEAN Member Countries. Subsequent consultation workshops have been held where relevant stakeholders reviewed, discussed, and adopted the draft situational assessment principles and technical guidelines for the environmentally sound management of used thermometers and sphygmomanometers.
The launch event aims to launch a situational assessment of ESM reports and technical guidelines for mercury waste from medical measuring instruments in Indonesia. Information on activities related to the mercury management project in the area along with situational assessments and technical guidelines were presented by the Ministry of Health, MoEF and BCRC-SCRC Indonesia respectively.
The objectives of the activity are as follows:
- Launched a Situation Assessment for the Management of Medical Measurement Devices Containing Mercury Devices in Indonesia; and
- Launched Substitution and Environmentally Friendly Technical Guidelines for Management of Medical Measurement Instruments Containing Mercury in Indonesia.
