NIP POPs 2022

Workshop on developing, reviewing, and updating national implementation plans (NIPs) under the Stockholm Convention organized by BCRC-SEA & SCRC Indonesia and the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention and supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on 27-29 September 2022 at Pullman Jakarta Central Park Hotel, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The workshop focused on disseminating the recently developed inventory guide on short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCP) and commercial mixtures of decabromodiphenyl ether (c-decaBDE) and other brominated flame retardants (BFRs) that are registered under the Convention.

This workshop is divided into 6 sessions in 3 days:
Session I: Development, Review and Updating of NIP
Session II : Inventory considerations for PFOS/PFOA/PFHxS and PBDEs/HBCD/HBB
Session III : Inventory development for SCCP, PCN, and PCB
Session IV: Introduction to PBDE, HBB and HBCD
Session V : POP monitoring to support NIP updates
Session VI : Development of action plans and updating/development of NIP

The aims of the workshop are as follows:

  • Fostering participants’ understanding of the scope of the obligation to update and review their NIP under article 7 of the Convention with respect to POPs registered in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
  • Increase capacity of participants to make effective use of guidance documents and other training tools when updating their NIP.
  • Strengthen the capacity of Parties to develop effective strategies and action plans towards eliminating newly registered POPs and enable them to fulfill their obligations to submit updated NIPs to the COP.
  • Promoting networks between various partners and agencies that assist parties in carrying out obligations under the Stockholm Convention with Parties to the Convention.
